Tusk Reacts to Błaszczak’s Accusations. In His Own Style. “I Forgot You Exist”

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk dismissed accusations against former defense minister Mariusz Błaszczak, calling them “revenge” and claiming he had “forgotten your existence.” The prosecution alleges Błaszczak misused classified defense documents during a 2023 PiS campaign ad.

Tusk’s Response to Błaszczak’s Accusations

“Mr. Błaszczak claims the accusation against him is ‘Tusk’s revenge.’ Nonsense. Honestly, I forgot you exist. I’m focused on serious matters,” wrote Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Friday on the X platform. Earlier, PiS MP and former Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak stated that the prosecution’s case against him was, in fact, “Tusk’s revenge.” “I’m facing a price for revealing the plans of the first PO-PSL government regarding the surrender of almost half of Poland without a fight,” the PiS politician argued.

Indictment Against Mariusz Błaszczak

On Thursday, the Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office submitted an indictment to the court, among others, against former Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak. The politician was accused of abusing his powers to gain personal benefits for the Law and Justice party. The case concerns a September 2023 PiS campaign ad that used declassified fragments from documents marked “Strictly Confidential” and “Confidential.”

Prosecution: Even Small Details Are Invaluable to Enemies

“Mariusz Błaszczak revealed out-of-context excerpts from the Plan for the Use of Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland (WARTA) for Independent Defensive Operations and fragments of the Political and Strategic Defense Directive from 2015. He interpreted these materials to suggest that Poland’s then-political leadership did not intend to defend the country at the onset of an aggressor’s attack but only after the eastern part of Poland was occupied—along the Vistula River line. Such an interpretation does not follow from an analysis of the complete documents of strategic operational planning,” the Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office stated in a Friday report. “Even minor details from Poland’s strategic defense plans are invaluable to foreign intelligence agencies hostile to Poland,” investigators noted.
