Three individuals, including an acquaintance of former President Andrzej Duda, face charges of bribery and influence peddling related to a presidential pardon.
Bribery Allegations
The National Prosecutor’s Office announced on Wednesday, February 11, that charges had been brought against Tomasz R., Monika K. T., and Dominik G. for claiming to have influence in the President’s Chancellery and for giving and accepting a financial benefit. One of these individuals is also suspected of presenting pornographic content involving animals.
RMF FM determined that among the detained persons is an acquaintance of former President Andrzej Duda.
Act of Clemency for Bribe
According to investigators, the transfer of 90,000 zlotys, which constituted part of the agreed amount, took place in January 2018 in Wisła (Cieszyn county, Silesian voivodeship). These funds were to constitute an element of the agreed remuneration for undertaking mediation in the matter.
The matter in question was obtaining a presidential pardon from the verdict of the District Court in Łódź.
Arrest for Suspects
The Prosecutor’s Office demanded the application of preventive measures against two suspects in the form of temporary detention for a period of three months. The court agreed to this proposal.
In turn, against the third person, the prosecutor applied non-custodial preventive measures. The proceedings used, among other things, the testimony of a crown witness. For the accused acts, the suspects face a penalty of up to 12 years’ imprisonment.
