Podlask Customs Thwarts E-Cigarette Smuggling Operation

Polish customs officers intercepted a van carrying nearly 16,500 untaxed e-cigarettes near Ostrów Mazowiecka, preventing potential tax evasion of 1.9 million złoty.

Smuggled E-Cigarettes Intercepted

Officers from the Podlaski Urząd Celno-Skarbowo discovered that a delivery van traveling from Lithuania to Poland may be carrying e-cigarettes without Polish tax stamps. Following joint operations by customs officers from Łomży and Budzisko, the vehicle was stopped on provincial road No. 627 near Ostrów Mazowiecka.

In the van driven by a 40-year-old Polish citizen, officers found nearly 16,500 disposable e-cigarettes without Polish tax stamps, containing a total of 427 liters of e-liquid.

Violation of Health Regulations

The seized goods failed to meet requirements stipulated in the law on health protection against the consequences of tobacco use. Specifically, the liquid in e-cigarettes exceeded the permitted tank capacity (2 ml) and maximum allowable nicotine content (20 mg/ml).

Additionally, the packaging lacked required health warnings in the Polish language.

Legal Consequences

The estimated tax evasion in this case amounts to nearly 1.9 million złoty. The van driver has been charged under the Criminal Tax Code.

The goods have been secured for proceedings being conducted by the Podlaski Urząd Celno-Skarbowy in Białystok.
