Construction to expand the Kabaty metro station in Warsaw begins March 20th, causing temporary bus route changes and traffic adjustments.
Construction on Track Extension Commences
Work related to the expansion of the Kabaty metro station’s track system is starting. These works will cause changes for passengers, with a temporary organization of traffic for buses being introduced from Friday to Saturday, March 20th to 21st. Changes for drivers are planned after Easter.
Initially, work will focus on preparing the construction site and the area necessary for the investment. The area around the loop will be fenced off, and the bus bay on Aleja Komisji Edukacji Narodowej will also be removed.

Second Phase of Traffic Changes
A second phase of traffic changes will be implemented on April 7th, after Easter. This will involve closing one lane of Aleja KEN towards the city center. Traffic on the section between Wąwozowa Street and Jerzy Iwanowa-Szajnowicza Street will operate on a single lane, alternating with traffic lights. The sidewalk along the bus bay will be inaccessible to pedestrians.
Construction Technology
Before the main construction work begins, the construction site will be fenced off and its facilities organized. The modernization work will cover the so-called track chamber of the Kabaty station, so the final solutions will not be visible to passengers.
The first construction work will involve making the excavation enclosure, followed by the demolition of a fragment of the existing station ceiling, walls, track slab, and bottom slab.
After the demolition work, work will be carried out on making the new expanded bottom slab and the walls of the crossover chamber, the track slab, and the new track surface with a crossover.

The expansion of the metro infrastructure at Kabaty will improve the passage of passenger trains.
Improved Train Flow and Future Line M3 Integration
After the reconstruction, metro trains will be able to turn around behind the Kabaty passenger station, and at the same time, more trains will be able to smoothly enter the line from the nearby Kabaty Technical and Parking Station. This will allow metro trains to run more efficiently and eliminate extended stops at stations approaching Kabaty.
All technical maneuvers of trains currently taking place on the track at the Kabaty station platform (which sometimes blocks passenger traffic) will be able to take place between the station and the tunnel exit towards the STP.
In the future, with the launch of the new line M3 (initially without the Kozia Górka STP), the changes will allow for more flexible traffic management – some trains will be introduced to the new line via the M1 lines from the Kabaty Technical and Parking Station.
