Stan Tymiński, a surprise contender in the 1990 presidential election, announced his intention to return to politics, potentially running for Senate with Konfederacja Korony Polskiej.
Tymiński’s Political Comeback
Stan Tymiński, who unexpectedly reached the second round of the 1990 presidential elections, discussed his potential return to politics during an interview with Krzysztof Stanowski on Kanał Zero. He stated he currently resides in Komorów and traveled to Warsaw accompanied by Grzegorz Braun, who, according to Tymiński, “helped him with the journey.”
Tymiński is considering running for a Senate seat on the Konfederacja Korony Polskiej list, with a final decision expected in the autumn during a party convention.
Reflections on the 1990 Election
During the interview, Tymiński revisited his 1990 campaign, asserting it was a response to the existing political establishment, which he sharply criticized. He credited Andrzej Kern with encouraging his candidacy, stating Kern invited him to the Sejm and suggested he could be a “dark horse” candidate.
Tymiński claimed he wasn’t intimidated by rivals like Lech Wałęsa and Tadeusz Mazowiecki, attributing his decision to run to his business experience, marketing skills, and campaign funding. He noted the difficulty in collecting the 140,000 signatures required for registration, calling it “a miracle in itself.” He alleges the election was rigged, but provided no concrete evidence.
Amazonia, Telepathy, and Ayahuasca
A significant portion of the conversation focused on Tymiński’s time in the Amazon rainforest. He spoke of the spirituality of Indigenous people, telepathy, and rituals involving ayahuasca. He expressed a desire to experience life outside the realm of money.
Tymiński described his experience in the Amazon as the best time of his life and detailed the ayahuasca ritual, stating it was approached with great seriousness, akin to “dying.”
Views on Russia
Tymiński expressed skepticism about a Russian attack on Poland, questioning, “Why would they need Poles to be happy?” He believes Russians view Poles as an “adventurous, difficult-to-control nation.”
He also mentioned having “very good contacts with the Russian embassy” during his 1990 campaign, suggesting Russia was interested in developing trade with Poland. He dismissed concerns about Russia’s historical presence in Poland as “emotional,” prioritizing business and economic prosperity. He praised Vladimir Putin as “a good leader for Russians,” and listed Putin, Alexander Lukashenko, and Giorgia Meloni among his most admired politicians.
Past Political Attempts
Following unsuccessful attempts to re-enter Polish politics in the 1990s, Tymiński largely disappeared from public view. He is remembered for his “black briefcase,” which he claimed contained compromising evidence against Lech Wałęsa. He also attempted to lead the Iks party, which failed to gain significant traction. His most recent political foray was a 2023 Senate run, where he received 20,000 votes, insufficient for a mandate.
