U.S. Weighs “Decisive Blow” Against Iran as Trump Expresses Fury

According to Axios, the U.S. is preparing for a potential “decisive blow” against Iran, a move that some officials believe would bolster Donald Trump’s position.

U.S. Considers Major Military Action

Axios reported that some U.S. officials believe a “crushing show of force” in Iran would strengthen Donald Trump’s position and provide a reason to claim victory. Escalation is considered more likely if Washington and Tehran fail to reach an agreement.

The Pentagon is reportedly preparing for a potential “final blow” against Iran, according to two anonymous U.S. officials and two sources with knowledge of the matter. This could involve ground troops and a large-scale bombing campaign.

Trump’s Public Frustration

On March 26th, Donald Trump expressed frustration with communication with Iran, stating Iranian negotiators are “very different and ‘strange.’” He accused them of “begging” for a deal while publicly only “considering” his proposal.

Shifting U.S. Demands and Dialogue

Previously, on March 6th, President Trump stated there would be no agreement with Iran “except for unconditional surrender,” demanding a new leader and promising to make Tehran “economically bigger, better, and stronger than ever before.” On March 21st, he demanded the unblocking of the Strait of Hormuz under threat of destroying Iranian power plants.

On March 23rd, Trump announced “very good and productive” talks between the U.S. and Iran regarding a complete resolution to conflicts in the Middle East, and ordered the Department of Defense to postpone military action against Iranian power plants for five days, contingent on the success of ongoing discussions. Iran denied any talks had taken place.

Strait of Hormuz Blockade Risk

A further escalation of the situation could be triggered by the continuation of Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
