A garbage truck fire in Warsaw’s Aleje Ujazdowskie on Tuesday forced sanitation workers to dump burning waste onto the roadway, causing significant traffic disruptions between major city squares.
Immediate Emergency Response
On Tuesday, May 12, at approximately 1:10 PM, a fire broke out within the waste transported inside a garbage truck on Aleje Ujazdowskie in Warsaw. The incident occurred near building number 41, on the roadway leading from Plac Trzech Krzyży toward Plac na Rozdrożu.
Tactical Waste Evacuation
Sanitation workers noticed the fire in the cargo area and immediately emptied the vehicle’s contents onto the street to prevent the flames from spreading. After clearing the truck, they promptly alerted the fire department for emergency assistance.
Firefighting Operations and Traffic Impact
One fire engine and police units responded to the scene, where officers cordoned off one direction of travel. Vehicles passing through this section of Aleje Ujazdowskie were restricted to a single lane during the operation.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze with a water jet before raking through the refuse to eliminate any risk of reignition. The operation concluded at 1:45 PM, and the site was handed over to waste management crews for cleanup and removal of the debris.
