On 12 August, a 16‑year‑old in Gorzów Wielkopolski gave birth outside a hospital, wrapped the newborn in a blanket and hid it in a wardrobe, leaving the child unattended for over seven hours.

The Incident

A 16‑year‑old woman arrived at a hospital in Gorzów Wielkopolski on 12 August, claiming she had given birth that day in an apartment. She admitted to wrapping the newborn in a blanket and placing the baby on a wardrobe shelf.

Police and Fire Response

Local police and firefighters were notified and searched the residence. A newborn was found, taken to a hospital emergency unit, and underwent a one‑hour operation; the infant’s condition was reported as good.

New Findings by Prosecutor’s Office

Investigators established that the baby was left without supervision from about 13:00 to 20:30. The child was found in the wardrobe during that time.

The prosecutor’s case was framed around the risk of severe harm or loss of life to the infant. Because the mother is under 17, the matter will be handled by the Family and Juvenile Court of Gorzów Wielkopolski.

Context and Juvenile Law

Under the 09 June 2022 Youth Support and Resocialisation Law, offences committed by persons aged 13‑16 are prosecuted by the Family Court.
