A man and his bicycle were hit by a long-distance Intercity train near Warsaw, Poland, on Wednesday around 12:50 PM.
Train Strikes Cyclist on Tracks
On Wednesday, April 1st, at approximately 12:50 PM, a man was struck by a long-distance Intercity train traveling from Zgorzelec to Warsaw Wschodnia near the S2 route, between PKP Piastów and PKP Ursus Niedźwiadek stations.
The injured man was crossing the tracks with his bicycle in a non-designated area when the incident occurred.
Near Miss and Minor Injuries
Initial reports indicate the train only grazed the bicycle, potentially saving the man’s life.
The man sustained minor leg injuries and was attended to by paramedics at the scene before being transported to a hospital.
Passenger Evacuation and Service Disruption
The Intercity train halted near PKP Ursus Niedźwiadek station following the collision. Approximately 250 passengers were evacuated with the assistance of firefighters.
Illegal Track Crossing
The incident involved emergency services responding to the railway line under the S2 route. The cause was determined to be the man illegally crossing the tracks.
