Two-thirds of Americans now believe Trump’s policies have worsened living conditions in the U.S., a 10-percentage-point increase since January. Approval of Trump’s handling of inflation has fallen from 44% to 27% year-over-year.
Erosion of Support Among Republicans
While Trump’s overall approval rating remains at 35%, a noticeable erosion is occurring among his base. The percentage of Republicans strongly approving of his performance has dropped from 52% to 43%.
Declining Confidence in Trump’s Economy
Support for Trump’s economic performance has decreased by 8 percentage points since January, and by 14 points among Republicans, now standing at just 31%.
Young Republicans Express Discontent
The decline is even steeper among Republicans under 45, falling by 23 percentage points. Nearly three in ten Republicans (28%) now believe Trump’s policies have worsened the U.S. economy, up from 13% in January.
Americans Cutting Back on Spending
Approximately three-quarters of Americans believe the U.S. economy is in bad shape, an 8-point increase since January, with those describing it as “very bad” up 12 points. A record 60% expect the economy to remain poor for the next year.
Impact of Fuel Costs and Budget Constraints
Over 60% of Americans report cutting back on their budgets and changing spending habits. Forty-five percent have “significantly” reduced driving due to rising gasoline prices linked to ongoing conflicts.
Lack of a Clear Plan on Fuel Prices
Sixty-three percent of respondents say higher gas prices have caused “some” financial hardship, with 15% experiencing “serious” difficulties. While most view rising costs as temporary, market signals suggest lasting impacts even if the war ends. Seven in ten believe Trump lacks a clear plan to address gas prices.
Voter Concerns: “Everything is so expensive!”
One Republican respondent summarized the issue: “Prices! Everything is so expensive! It’s hard to do anything besides work and come home. Grocery shopping is absurd. Between gas and groceries, we’re poor!”
Economic Issues Dominate Concerns
A new poll indicates that 40% of respondents cite the economy as the most important issue facing the country, more than double the percentage for other concerns. Sixty-seven percent believe Trump has not paid enough attention to the country’s most pressing problems.
Diminishing Approval of Foreign Policy
The poll also shows a worsening opinion of Trump’s foreign policy approach. Sixty-three percent believe his decisions have harmed the U.S.’s standing in the world, a 6-point increase since January. Only 36% approve of his foreign policy.
