A key advisor and nephew of Hezbollah’s Secretary-General was killed in an Israeli strike on Beirut, as Israel intensifies attacks on Lebanon.
Hezbollah Official Confirmed Dead
Harszi was a close associate and personal advisor to Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Kasem, playing a crucial role in managing his office and security, according to the army’s statement.
Initially, Reuters reported, citing the Israeli army, that the Hezbollah leader himself had been killed.
Israeli Strikes Target Litani River Crossings and Hezbollah Infrastructure
Israeli forces reported attacking two key crossings over the Litani River used by Hezbollah to transport weapons south into Lebanon for attacks against Israel.
The military added that approximately 10 Hezbollah weapons depots, rocket launchers, and headquarters in southern Lebanon were destroyed.
Over 250 Killed in Israeli Attacks on Lebanon
At least 254 people were killed and 1165 injured in Wednesday’s large-scale Israeli attacks targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The attacks followed an agreement between Washington and Tehran for a two-week ceasefire in the conflict that began on February 28th, though the US and Israel clarified this did not include ongoing military operations in Lebanon.
US Clarifies Ceasefire Misunderstanding
“I think it stems from a sincere misunderstanding. I think the Iranians believed the ceasefire included Lebanon, and it didn’t. We never made that commitment, we never indicated that would be the case,” said US Vice President J.D. Vance.
Vance added that Israel offered “restraint” in Lebanon, but not a ceasefire.
Escalation of Conflict on Israel-Lebanon Border
Fighting on the Israel-Lebanon border began on March 2nd when Hezbollah, an Iran-backed organization primarily operating in Lebanon, joined the conflict by attacking Israel.
