Firefighters Contain Tire Recycling Plant Blaze in Rozental, Extinguishing Continues

A fire at a tire recycling facility in Rozental, Poland was brought under control Saturday, with over 100 firefighters continuing to extinguish remaining hotspots.

Fire Contained, Extinguishing Ongoing

The fire is contained and no longer spreading; its location has been identified. Firefighting efforts are ongoing, reported Junior Captain Jarosław Lisica of the Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Gdańsk to PAP on Saturday.

More than 100 firefighters are involved in the operation, now focused on extinguishing the remnants of the fire. A drone team is monitoring the situation using thermal imaging.

Challenges Posed by Tire Material

Extinguishing the fire is difficult due to the nature of the stored material – thousands of tires were involved.

Removal of Burning Material

A key element of the operation is the gradual removal and transport of the burning material using heavy equipment. Two excavators and one loader are being used to progressively remove the burning material, according to Junior Sergeant Dawid Westrych.

This aims to increase the effectiveness of extinguishing and more accurately locate sources of the fire.

No Immediate Threat to Residents

There is no threat to residents, but authorities recommend staying indoors and keeping windows closed, Westrych stated. The estimated time for completion of the operation remains difficult to assess.

Fire Reported Friday Afternoon

Firefighters received a report of the fire around 4:45 PM on Friday. A tire shredding machine and a pile of granulated material caught fire. Thick, dark plumes of smoke were visible from a distance. No injuries were reported.
