Kaczyński Issues Ultimatum Regarding Morawiecki Association, Sparking PiS Internal Conflict

Following a Tuesday meeting, Jarosław Kaczyński reportedly warned PiS members joining Mateusz Morawiecki’s association will be excluded from electoral lists.

Kaczyński’s Ultimatum and Internal Party Tensions

According to TVN24 reports, the ultimatum was issued after a meeting of PiS authorities. Jarosław Kaczyński reportedly invited a smaller group of associates and announced that party members joining Mateusz Morawiecki’s association would not be placed on electoral lists.

This move effectively allows Morawiecki to build his own support base, but without individuals committed to remaining within PiS.

Morawiecki’s Initiative and Potential “Nuclear Option”

While a final decision hasn’t been made, reports suggest a power struggle is underway within the party between Kaczyński’s circle and Morawiecki’s supporters. Morawiecki had previously argued his association aimed to attract centrist voters, not undermine the party.

Kaczyński’s action is seen as a significant blow to Morawiecki’s plans, with his camp reportedly considering a “nuclear option” – preparing alternative electoral lists.

Szydło’s Conditional Acceptance of Morawiecki’s Activity

Beata Szydło previously expressed a more conciliatory tone, stating she saw no issue with additional political activity by PiS members, provided it aligned with and supported the party’s overall political efforts.

Szydło also indicated she didn’t believe Morawiecki intended to leave the party, but reports suggest his activity is now viewed as potential competition to the party’s central command.

Potential Coalition Scenarios and Parallel Debates

Szydło also suggested PiS should consider potential post-election scenarios, including possible coalition talks with the PSL. This indicates parallel debates within the party regarding expanding the electorate and seeking coalition possibilities, and whether Morawiecki is attempting to establish too independent a position.

Adam Bielan, following the PiS leadership meeting, stated Morawiecki’s future would be “bright” and described the meeting as “good, really great.” However, sources indicate a less harmonious atmosphere behind the scenes.
