A 24-year-old man went to a police station to check his sobriety, but was arrested after being identified as the driver who earlier crashed a car and fled the scene.
Initial Crash and Vehicle Abandonment
Police in Grodzisk Mazowiecki received a report of a car crash after 10:00 PM. A patrol confirmed a Skoda had overturned, with no one present at the scene and no license plates on the vehicle.
Officers began investigating to identify the vehicle’s owner and driver.
Suspect Identified Through Alert Dispatcher
The dispatcher quickly recognized the suspect’s description as matching the driver of the overturned Skoda, demonstrating efficient information analysis.
Voluntary Appearance and Arrest
After midnight, the 24-year-old man entered the police station requesting a sobriety test, stating he intended to drive. The test revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.7 per mille, despite approximately two hours having passed since the crash.
He was immediately detained.
Confession and Charges
Further investigation confirmed the man was the driver who lost control, crashed the Skoda, removed the license plates, and fled the scene, hoping to retrieve the car before being identified.
He confessed to removing the plates and fleeing.
The man now faces charges for driving under the influence, which carries a potential sentence of up to three years in prison.
