Louisiana Shooting Leaves Eight Children Dead

A shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, on Sunday morning left eight children and two women dead; the suspect was later killed by police.

Initial Response and Casualties

Police responded to a reported domestic dispute and arrived at the scene. Ten people were shot in total, eight of whom died – all children aged 1 to 14. Two women were also among the victims; one was critically injured with a gunshot wound to the head, and the other was in a relationship with the shooter.

Suspect Pursuit and Death

The suspect was fatally shot by officers during a vehicle chase following the incident. The shooting occurred around 6 a.m. local time on Sunday.

Connection to Victims

Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith stated at a press conference that some of the children killed were related to the shooter, while others were visiting a neighboring home. The suspect fled to Bossier City before being killed by police.

Local Reaction

Tom Arceneaux, the mayor of Shreveport, described the situation as “perhaps the most tragic” the city has ever faced.
