Poles Weigh In On Potential Increase to Child Benefit

A recent poll asked Polish citizens their views on raising the “Family 800+” child benefit to 1000 zł, revealing a surprising response.

Inflation vs. Parental Wallet

The primary reason the “800 plus” benefit feels less substantial than the previous “500 plus” is inflation. The cost of living, food prices, energy costs, and educational services in 2026 are significantly higher than in 2016 or even 2019.

What Do Poles Think About Increasing 800+?

The Pollster Research Institute, commissioned by “Super Express,” asked Poles whether the benefit amount should increase to 1000 zł per child. Despite the assumption that additional money in the household budget is always welcome, the latest public opinion poll yields surprising results.

Why the Reluctance to Increase 800+?

There may be many reasons for the reluctance. The “Family 800 plus” program is a cornerstone of Polish social policy. It launched in April 2016 as “500 plus,” initially providing unconditional support only for the second and subsequent children.

Today, the situation is quite different: the benefit is universal, and since January 2024, it amounts to 800 zł. There are growing voices in the public sphere about the declining real value of the benefit, which is economically justified.

Deadline Alert: Important ZUS Date

While the debate about the benefit amount continues, parents must remember formalities—a new reporting period is approaching, starting June 1st and lasting until May 31st, 2027. To maintain continuity of payments and avoid losing any installments, the application must be submitted no later than April 30th, 2026.

Submitting documents after this deadline may result in a suspension of payments, which will only be reconciled in later months.

How to Apply for 800 Plus?

The process is conducted exclusively electronically. Parents have three proven channels to choose from.
