French President Emmanuel Macron announced European readiness to provide security guarantees for Ukraine once a peace deal is signed, while warning that Russia’s unprovoked attacks must be met with global response.
Macron’s Security Guarantees Proposal
During a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Macron said that Europeans are ready to offer security guarantees to Ukraine “as soon as a peace agreement is signed” between Kyiv and Moscow. This would involve sending troops to support Ukraine, a move that would represent a significant escalation of Western involvement in the war.
Premier Tusk’s Response
Poland, a member of the “coalition of willing” countries that meet Thursday, has pledged political and logistical support for countries willing to send troops. However, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has previously stated that Polish soldiers will not be among them, although they will actively support those who do.
Zelensky’s Warnings
The Ukrainian president expressed alarm about Russia’s aggressive tactics, pointing to Wednesday’s attack involving over 500 drones and 24 missiles targeting energy infrastructure, civilian infrastructure, and a transport hub. “Putin is showing his impunity, and this undoubtedly requires a reaction from the global community,” he wrote.
