The U.S. Department of Defense has reached an agreement with Google to utilize its AI models for classified operations.
Google and the Pentagon’s AI Agreement
Google has entered into an agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense regarding the use of its AI models for confidential activities, according to The Information on Tuesday.
Under the agreement, the Pentagon will be able to use Google’s AI for “any lawful government purpose.” Similar agreements have previously been made with Elon Musk’s xAI and OpenAI.
Lack of Official Confirmation
Neither Alphabet, Google’s parent company, nor the Department of Defense have responded to Reuters’ requests for comment on these reports.
Pentagon’s Broader AI Investments
Last year, the Pentagon established agreements with leading AI companies, each valued at $200 billion.
Maintaining Flexibility in Defense Systems
Reuters emphasized that the Pentagon aims to maintain full flexibility in the defense sector and avoid equipping weapon systems with unreliable AI.
