The European Parliament voted Tuesday to lift the immunity of four Polish MEPs—Daniel Obajtek, Patryk Jaki, Grzegorz Braun, and Tomasz Buczek—in separate cases.
Immunity Stripped from Polish MEPs
The European Parliament has voted to lift the immunity of Polish MEPs Daniel Obajtek and Patryk Jaki, both from PiS, as well as Grzegorz Braun and Tomasz Buczek, representing Konfederacja Korony Polskiej.
The lifting of parliamentary immunity applies to specific cases.
Obajtek Case: Blocking Weekly Distribution
The case against Obajtek concerns his actions as CEO of Orlen, specifically blocking the distribution of the weekly magazine “NIE” at Orlen stations due to its cover featuring Pope John Paul II.
Jaki Case: Dispute with Judge Tuleya
A private indictment against Jaki was filed by Judge Igor Tuleya after Jaki accused him of knowingly approving surveillance using the Pegasus system. When Tuleya denied the accusation, Jaki suggested the judge was unfamiliar with the documents he signed.
Braun Case: Blocking Road During Anniversary
This is the fourth time Braun’s immunity has been lifted. This instance relates to blocking a road in Jedwabne on July 10, 2025, during commemorations of the 84th anniversary of the massacre of the Jewish population.
Buczek Case: Incident During Election Night
The case involving Buczek concerns an incident during an election night event where he allegedly violently snatched a megaphone from a participant criticizing him. Proceedings were initiated based on a private indictment.
