A large fire broke out at a supermarket in Halinów, near Warsaw, on Saturday afternoon, causing the roof to collapse and prompting a large-scale firefighting operation.
Fire Breaks Out, Rapid Spread
A significant fire erupted at a supermarket in Halinów, located in Mińsk County, near Warsaw, on Saturday afternoon. The fire quickly engulfed a substantial portion of the commercial building.
The fire department received the initial report at 3:20 PM. The blaze rapidly spread, covering approximately 1,500 square meters of the facility.
Scale of the Response
Firefighters immediately recognized the large scale of the threat. Initially, seven fire crews were dispatched, but additional forces were quickly deployed. Younger Brigadier Kamil Płochocki of the Mińsk Mazowiecki County State Fire Service reported the initial response.
As the situation evolved, the number of rescuers was increased. Ultimately, 12 fire crews, comprising around 80 firefighters, were involved in the operation. Police and energy services were also present to secure the area and disconnect power.
Roof Collapse Complicates Efforts
The fire primarily affected the roof, measuring approximately 20 by 30 meters. Approximately 600 square meters of the roof structure burned and partially collapsed inward, significantly hindering firefighting efforts and increasing risks for rescuers, according to Kamil Płochocki.
No Injuries, Containment Successful
Despite the severity of the fire, authorities confirmed no injuries. A key focus of the operation was to protect neighboring buildings from the spreading flames.
Firefighters successfully contained the fire to the supermarket premises, preventing it from spreading to adjacent structures. A fire department representative emphasized that residents were not at risk and neighboring buildings were protected.
