PLN 600 Electricity Bill Subsidy: PFRON Reminds of Deadline

Poland’s PFRON offers up to PLN 600 to cover electricity costs for households using medical respirators or oxygen concentrators, with a key application window in May-June.

Subsidy Details and Eligibility

The PFRON subsidy provides PLN 100 per month, up to a maximum of PLN 600 per application, for individuals using respirators or oxygen concentrators at home. The application period began on February 16th.

The subsidy aims to offset the increased energy consumption associated with life-sustaining medical equipment used in home healthcare settings.

Application Window and Refund Period

Applications can be submitted in PFRON’s Area E of the “Active Self-Government” program until November 30, 2026. However, refunds cover costs incurred over a period of 3 to 6 months, and only past months can be included in the application.

Importance of May and June Applications

May and June are crucial months for applicants as they allow individuals to include several months of documented costs in their application. Those who have been using the equipment since February will have accumulated sufficient qualifying months for a higher refund amount.

Key Considerations for Application Timing

The most common error is focusing solely on the final application date of November 30, 2026. The qualifying period of 180 days prior to submission and the inclusion of only past months are more important for determining the subsidy amount.

Applying in May requires sufficient qualifying months, while waiting until June, July, or August may allow for the inclusion of a full six months, provided eligibility criteria are met throughout that period.

Eligibility Criteria

The subsidy is available to individuals with a disability certificate or, in the case of children under 16, with a disability certificate who use an oxygen concentrator or respirator at home as part of home oxygen therapy, home ventilation, palliative care, hospice care, long-term nursing care, or based on a specialist doctor’s recommendation.

The subsidy applies regardless of whether the equipment is owned or rented.

Application Process and Required Documents

Applications must be submitted electronically through the System Obsługi Wsparcia (SOW). Applicants must select the application for Module I, Area E, complete the form, and attach the required documents.

PFRON Simplifications

PFRON has introduced three simplifications: applicants do not need to be the direct bill payer, provide electricity bills, or wait for a contract to be concluded, as the subsidy is paid based on the submitted application.

Disbursement Timeline

Payments for applications submitted in 2026 will begin no earlier than the second quarter of the year (April 1st). This is due to the settlement of funds from the previous year and the transfer of new funds to the counties.

Common Application Errors

Delaying the application without verifying qualifying months or including an insufficient period are the most significant risks. Assuming a full PLN 600 is automatically granted simply because the application is submitted before the November 30th deadline is incorrect.

Example Scenario

Anna, who cares for her father using an oxygen concentrator, will receive PLN 300 if her application covers only three months. Waiting to include six months, if eligible, will increase the amount to PLN 600.
