Modus Operandi of the “Roundabout Driver”

Warsaw’s “Wyborcza” has extensively documented the activities of Dawid D., who has for years deliberately caused collisions at critical city intersections. He targets unaware or inattentive drivers, orchestrating incidents where he ensures the fault does not lie with him, then proposes a cash or Blik settlement or charges the at-fault driver’s insurer.

On internet forums, “Rondziarz” claims to be the victim, arguing that other drivers are unfamiliar with traffic regulations. “Wyborcza” first reported on the “roundabout driver,” who drives a white Ford, in April 2025, although his activities began six years prior, accumulating 65 registered collisions to date.

“Rondziarz” Offers PLN 1500 or Police Intervention

On Friday, May 8, the driver was again involved in a collision in Warsaw, occurring at the intersection of Żwirki and Wigury and Wawelska streets. A woman driving a Peugeot, turning from the left lane, should have entered the left lane of Wawelska but instead entered the second lane from the left.

At the same time, a Ford Focus was traveling in the right lane of Żwirki and Wigury. The vehicles made contact, with the Ford lightly scraping the Peugeot’s rear wheel. After initially stopping on Wawelska, the Ford driver suggested moving to a nearby street, Czubatki.

The Ford driver then offered the woman PLN 1500 for the damage without involving authorities, or to call the police. The Peugeot driver, initially uncertain of her responsibility, ultimately decided to call the police.

Police Seize “Rondziarz’s” Driving License

Officers were not convinced that the responsibility lay solely with the Peugeot driver. Analyzing video footage, police reportedly noted to the Ford driver that he had free lanes to his right and that, according to the principle of caution, a road user should avoid actions or omissions that could cause danger or harm.

Junior aspirant Jakub Filipiak confirmed the intervention and that officers seized the Ford driver’s license, though he could not confirm other details at the time. According to Miejski Reporter, officers also thoroughly inspected the Ford’s technical condition, finding engine fluid leaks, loose body elements, and unattached front headlights, none of which were related to that day’s collision.

The man also received a PLN 1000 fine for not possessing a warning triangle. Officers prohibited him from further driving and ordered a tow truck. Responsibility for Friday’s incident will be determined in further court proceedings.

Prosecutor’s Investigation into Compensation Fraud

In January, “Wyborcza” reported that the prosecutor’s office found no evidence of a prohibited act in the man’s behavior. However, in February, the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office took over the investigation from the Ochota prosecutor’s office. The probe specifically concerns “bringing about unfavorable disposition of property of various insurance companies by misleading them as to the circumstances of incidents forming the basis for compensation payment and extorting money from concluded insurance contracts,” an offense under Article 286 § 1 of the Criminal Code.

The prosecutor’s office stated that the investigation has been assigned to the Investigative-Detective Department of the Capital Police Headquarters. Efforts are underway to identify all incidents involving “suspected persons,” referring to individuals who registered cars later used to cause road incidents that served as the basis for undue compensation payments from at-fault drivers’ policies.
