Following a session on the selection of new National Council of the Judiciary members on May 15, Włodzimierz Czarzasty directly confronted Kamil Wnuk regarding rumored disparaging remarks about his political leadership.
A Confrontation on the Floor
The incident occurred on the parliamentary podium on Friday, May 15, immediately after the vote on new National Council of the Judiciary (KRS) members. Włodzimierz Czarzasty directly asked Kamil Wnuk, “Listen, do you have some problems with me?” The surprised MP inquired about the nature of the accusation.
The Speaker of the Sejm explained that he had received reports of Wnuk making unkind comments in the media, specifically labeling Czarzasty’s actions as “poor.” Wnuk immediately denied the claims, noting that during his recent appearances on TV Republika, he had actually defended both Czarzasty and Donald Trump.
Czarzasty accepted the explanation calmly, suggesting someone had provided him with false information. The exchange concluded with the Left leader questioning why Wnuk appears on TV Republika at all. Wnuk replied that TVN does not invite him, to which Czarzasty responded that the parliamentary club would need to address the matter.
Sejm Elects New KRS Members
On the morning of May 15, the Sejm elected 15 judges as members of the National Council of the Judiciary. The list included 13 candidates from the ruling coalition, as well as one nominee each from the PiS and Confederation clubs, as required by existing legislation.
The procedure for selecting the judiciary members is governed by laws enacted during the previous administration. These rules require the Sejm to vote on a list of 15 candidates prepared by a committee, with the mandate that each parliamentary club must have at least one candidate represented on the final list.
Legal experts from the Chancellery of the Sejm clarified that the term “next session” regarding the election process does not necessarily imply a future meeting. They determined it can refer to the session currently in progress, ensuring the process is conducted promptly and efficiently.
