Two EA-18G Growler aircraft crashed more than 3 km from the Mountain Home Air Force Base. According to reports from Airshow News, four open parachutes were visible at the moment of the disaster.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene. The Idaho Statesman reported that the pilots were located and are “safe and sound,” with their parachutes landing approximately 1.5 km from the crash site.
Show Cancellation and Security Protocols
Authorities cancelled the remainder of the airshow and warned the public to avoid the accident area. Attendees were instructed to remain on the base while emergency services cleared the site to extinguish the fire caused by the crash.
History of Gunfighter Skies
This event marked the first edition of Gunfighter Skies in eight years. In 2018, a hang glider pilot died during the event, while in 2003, an F-16 crashed, with the pilot ejecting at the last possible moment.
