Prosecutors Investigate “Kloszard Kombat” Freak Fight Scandal

The Gdańsk District Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the organizers of the aborted “Kloszard Kombat” gala, which allegedly sought to feature homeless and vulnerable individuals in violent cage matches for profit.

Probing the Recruitment and Exploitation

The investigation focuses on the preparations for an event organized by the Prime MMA federation. Officials are reviewing allegations that the organizers intended to recruit homeless individuals, people with disabilities, and those potentially lacking the legal capacity to consent to participating in cage fighting.

The case, formally notified by Minister Katarzyna Kotula’s parliamentary office on March 31, seeks to determine if participants were coerced or exploited under dire life circumstances. Prosecutors are analyzing contracts, intent declarations, and the financial arrangements proposed to prospective fighters.

Public Backlash and Regulatory Reform

The “Kloszard Kombat” format sparked widespread outrage, eventually forcing local authorities in Lubin to cancel the venue permit and leading to the event’s cancellation. The incident has accelerated parliamentary work on new legislation targeting “patostreaming”—the monetization of online content involving humiliation, violence, and the abuse of vulnerable people.

Minister Kotula and the Ministry of Digital Affairs are pushing for stricter age verification, improved platform accountability, and the criminalization of content that promotes the abuse or degradation of others for financial gain.

The Rise of Polish Freak Fights

Since 2021, the freak fight market—dominated by federations like Prime MMA, Fame MMA, and Clout MMA—has ballooned into a massive industry. While these events generate millions of views and significant Pay-Per-View revenue, critics argue they rely on pathological behaviors, staged aggression, and the exploitation of marginalized individuals.

Experts and children’s safety advocates warn that current content moderation mechanisms are insufficient. As the investigation into the “Kloszard Kombat” organizers continues, the legal proceedings may set a significant precedent for holding digital platforms responsible for the controversial and harmful content published by their creators.
