Former Kozienice Parish Priest Indicted for Multi-Million Zloty Fraud

An indictment has been filed at the Radom District Court against Kazimierz Ch., the former parish priest in Kozienice, accused of embezzling over 2.7 million PLN and committing systemic financial abuses.

Scope of Alleged Crimes

The indictment covers activities occurring between November 15, 2017, and February 10, 2023. Prosecutors allege that Kazimierz Ch. abused his position as administrator of the Roman Catholic Parish in Kozienice by failing to fulfill his duties and improperly managing parish assets.

The charges include the unauthorized transfer of at least 524,000 PLN to a third party between 2017 and 2019. Furthermore, the defendant is accused of causing a total financial loss to the parish of no less than 2,745,804.76 PLN.

Unauthorized Loans and Fraudulent Documentation

According to the prosecution, Kazimierz Ch. secured loans from dozens of individuals in the name of the parish without the required approval from the Radom Curia’s administrative authorities. These actions allegedly caused victims to suffer losses totaling 1,599,300 PLN.

Additionally, the former priest faces charges for submitting falsified documents to account for a 110,000 PLN public grant intended for electrical and lightning protection upgrades at the church. He is also accused of misappropriating 66,400 PLN from private individuals and clergy members.

Investigation and Legal Status

The investigation, launched in June 2023 and taken over by the Radom District Prosecutor’s Office in March 2024, involved extensive witness interviews, financial audits, and expert construction analysis. Kazimierz Ch. was detained on February 19, 2026.

The accused has pleaded not guilty and has refused to provide explanations or answer questions. He is currently subject to non-custodial measures, including police supervision and a travel ban involving the surrender of his passport. He faces a prison sentence of one to 10 years.
