Nawrocki to Resubmit Climate Referendum Proposal After Senate Rejection

President Karol Nawrocki announced on Friday that he will file a new request with the Senate for a national referendum on EU climate policy after his initial motion was rejected earlier this week.

Revised Referendum Strategy

President Karol Nawrocki confirmed on Friday his intention to submit a second motion to the Senate regarding a referendum on the European Union’s climate policy. He emphasized that the matter is too critical to be dismissed, asserting that citizens should be the ones to decide once the framing of the question is adjusted.

Senate Rejection and Question Reformulation

On Wednesday, the Senate denied the President’s request to organize a referendum on EU climate policy, which had been proposed for September 27. The original question focused on the economic impact of climate measures on citizens and the rising costs of energy, business, and agricultural operations.

Presidential Justification

Speaking to residents in the Sokołów district, President Nawrocki stated that if the original question was deemed inappropriate, he would simply amend it to ensure the public can voice their opinion on the Green Deal. He maintained that a technical issue with the phrasing should not preclude the possibility of holding the referendum.
