U.S. Strikes Iranian Targets in Strait of Hormuz

U.S. forces conducted defensive strikes in southern Iran to neutralize threats to military personnel, destroying two IRGC vessels and a surface-to-air missile launcher while maintaining the current ceasefire.

Defensive Action in the Strait

U.S. Central Command spokesperson Tim Hawkins stated that American forces carried out self-defense strikes in southern Iran to protect troops from Iranian threats. He emphasized that the U.S. military will continue to defend its forces while exercising restraint during the ongoing ceasefire.

A senior U.S. official confirmed to Fox News that two Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) boats were destroyed while laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, a surface-to-air missile launcher in Bandar-e Abbas was struck after targeting U.S. aircraft.

Ceasefire Status and Regional Tensions

Official sources clarified that these strikes do not signal the end of the current ceasefire and that the military operations have concluded. Prior to the strikes, local reports noted explosions in the vicinity of Bandar-e Abbas near the Strait of Hormuz.

The conflict between the U.S. and Israel against Iran began on February 28. Despite an April 8 ceasefire, intermittent exchanges of fire have continued between the opposing sides.

Diplomatic Negotiations and Nuclear Policy

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated that negotiations are ongoing in Qatar regarding a formal agreement to end the war. Rubio stated that while discussions are focused on the final language of a deal, the Strait of Hormuz must remain open for international transit.

Rubio further declared that the U.S. is prepared to initiate negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program, provided that Tehran immediately opens the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized that resolving the nuclear issue is a long-term process that requires guarantees against Iran obtaining nuclear weapons.
