Warsaw police have arrested 48-year-old attorney Maciej Z. on charges including false reports of threats against state officials, identity theft, and the possession of an illegal weapons arsenal.
The Charges and Pre-Trial Detention
Maciej Z. is accused of falsely reporting planned attacks on presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski. The prosecution has leveled multiple charges against him, including identity theft, filing false crime reports, embezzlement, and destruction of documents.
The court has ordered the suspect to be held in pre-trial detention, citing the risk of tampering with evidence and the severity of the potential sentence. At this stage, investigators have found no evidence that the attorney acted in collusion with others.
Seized Evidence and Professional Fallout
According to police, the suspect included illegally obtained documents and items in his mail to frame innocent individuals. One package was found to contain live ammunition. During a forced entry into his apartment, authorities discovered fascist materials, an illegal firearm, and a large cache of melee weapons.
The attorney is expected to be formally suspended from legal practice in the near future. Police have described the investigation as ongoing, with new leads currently under examination.
Distinction From Recent Bomb Threats
Authorities have clarified that this arrest is not directly linked to a recent, separate wave of false bomb threats targeting Telewizji Republika and the family of Karol Nawrocki. In that separate case, five individuals have been detained, with three currently in custody.
Deputy Interior Minister Wiesław Szczepański announced that a specialized task force, involving cybersecurity experts, NASK, and the Internal Security Agency, has been established to address the broader series of hoax alerts.
