A 32-year-old unlicensed driver and a 54-year-old passenger died after their Peugeot veered off the road and overturned into a swamp in Brzuze, Poland, on the night of May 30.
The Fatal Accident
The incident occurred on Saturday, May 30, after 9:00 PM on Provincial Road 556 in Brzuze, Rypin County. Witnesses alerted emergency services after hearing a noise and attempted to assist before fire crews and rescuers arrived.
Police investigators established that the 32-year-old driver, who held no valid driving license, was traveling on a straight stretch of road when the car inexplicably veered into the opposite lane and flipped into the swamp.
Casualties and Medical Response
A 54-year-old male passenger died at the scene. The driver and a second passenger, a 48-year-old man, were extracted from the vehicle and transported to a hospital. On Sunday, police confirmed the driver succumbed to her injuries. The surviving passenger remains under medical care and is not in life-threatening condition.
Rescue Operations and Investigation
Due to the vehicle’s location, a specialized water and diving unit from Włocławek was deployed to search for additional victims. The operation included firefighters, police, medical teams, a prosecutor, and an air ambulance.
An investigation is underway to determine why the vehicle left the road. Authorities are examining potential factors including road conditions, speed, and loss of vehicle control.
