Fatal Police Intervention in Płock: Man Dies After Handcuffing

A 46-year-old man died during a police intervention in Płock on May 30 after officers were called to reports of a naked, bleeding individual behaving aggressively and irrationally.

Police Response and Escalation

The incident occurred in the Podolszyce Południe district of Płock. At approximately 4:00 AM on May 30, officers were dispatched to Czwartaków Street following reports of a naked and bleeding man who had been lying at a bus stop and screaming in the area of a local market.

Upon arrival, police found the man acting irrationally. According to official reports, the individual became aggressive, leading officers to suspect the influence of psychoactive substances. A second patrol was called to the scene to provide support during the intervention.

Arrest and Medical Emergency

Officers placed the 46-year-old in handcuffs with his hands behind his back. While waiting for medical assistance, the man remained on the sidewalk and suddenly ceased breathing. Police removed the restraints and initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics arrived to continue life-saving efforts.

Despite these interventions, the man could not be resuscitated. Authorities later confirmed the deceased was a 46-year-old resident of Płock.

Investigation and Evidence Collection

A prosecutor attended the scene, and the body has been secured for an autopsy. Investigators have since searched the deceased’s home, where they recovered a significant amount of cash and suspected psychoactive substances now undergoing laboratory testing.

Key evidence, including body-worn camera footage and municipal surveillance, has been secured. The case has been referred to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Płock. Additionally, internal oversight bodies from the Police Headquarters and the Regional Police Headquarters in Radom have been notified to review the conduct of the intervention.
