Bosak Demands Ultimatum for Ukraine: From Symbolic Gestures to Concrete Sanctions

Confederation leader Krzysztof Bosak urged the Polish government to pressure Ukraine by threatening to block its EU accession and halting financial support until Kyiv resolves historical disputes and exhumation issues.

Proposed diplomatic and financial sanctions

Krzysztof Bosak stated on RMF FM this Tuesday that symbolic gestures, such as stripping Volodymyr Zelensky of the Order of the White Eagle, are insufficient. He argued that Poland must move toward concrete actions to effectively influence Kyiv.

Bosak proposed that Poland should announce a blockade on Ukraine’s European Union accession until the Ukrainian authorities abandon the “cult of criminals” and fully authorize all pending exhumations. Additionally, he suggested that Poland cease paying for Starlink satellites used by Ukraine and withdraw from previous government agreements regarding Polish-funded debt for Ukraine.

He characterized the current financial arrangement as unprecedented, claiming that Poland is taking on the burden of repaying credit for Ukraine rather than providing standard loans or aid.

Accusations of contempt and political weakness

According to the Confederation leader, recent actions by the Ukrainian government have fostered a climate of “contempt” toward Polish politicians, whom he alleges are now viewed in Ukraine as “pushovers” who will not react to provocations.

Context of the UPA controversy

The tension follows President Zelensky’s decision to name a Ukrainian military unit after the “Heroes of the UPA.” In response, Karol Nawrocki proposed that the Order of the White Eagle Chapter discuss revoking Zelensky’s decoration during their June 8 meeting.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry response

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhij Tychyj expressed regret over the intense reaction in Poland. He stated that these developments contradict the broader positive trend of resolving bilateral issues that has been observed over the past eighteen months.
