A 66-year-old man has been charged with the involuntary ignition of a large warehouse fire on Rembielińskiego Street in Płock, which occurred on the evening of June 1.
The Incident and Emergency Response
The fire broke out at a service and warehouse facility measuring approximately 80 by 100 meters, housing over a dozen business units. The site is located near other buildings, a gas station, and a four-story apartment block.
Firefighters battled the blaze until Tuesday, with 52 units involved, including industrial teams from Orlen and PERN. While the structure’s roof collapsed, authorities successfully evacuated six people from the hall and dozens of residents from the neighboring apartment building; no injuries were reported.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
On June 3, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Płock charged the 66-year-old Polish citizen with the involuntary causing of a fire, a crime punishable by up to five years in prison. The suspect has confessed to the act and provided testimony consistent with the evidence gathered thus far.
Following his hearing, the suspect was released but remains under police supervision and is prohibited from leaving the country, with his passport withheld. Investigators are currently working to determine the exact cause of the fire and the full extent of the material damage, citing the integrity of the ongoing probe as the reason for withholding specific details.
