Poland Considers Using Reparations from Germany to Fund Military Defense

Polish President Karol Nawrocki suggested during a Berlin meeting with Germany’s leaders that reparations from Germany could be used to fund Poland’s military-industrial complex.

Germany Meeting Details

President Karol Nawrocki traveled to Berlin on Tuesday, September 16, where he met with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Among other topics, they discussed Polish security and NATO’s eastern flank.

Reparations Proposal

During a press conference, Nawrocki suggested that reparations from Germany could potentially be used to finance Poland’s military capabilities.

German Response

Cerstin Gammelin, spokeswoman for the German president, commented on Nawrocki’s proposal, stating that Steinmeier emphasized that the issue of reparations has been legally resolved from Germany’s perspective.
