A Polish court has dismissed the case against Sławomir Nowak, a former minister and EU politician, accused of corruption and bribery in Ukraine.
Background and Charges
Sławomir Nowak, a former Polish minister of transport and chief of staff to Donald Tusk, was appointed head of Ukraine’s State Agency of Automobile Roads (Ukravtodor) and later faced 17 charges of corruption and organized crime.
The charges included allegedly demanding and accepting bribes totaling over 6.1 million PLN and laundering approximately 8 million PLN.
Court Ruling
A Warsaw district court has dismissed the so-called “Polish thread” of the case due to a lack of factual basis for the charges.
The court cited the Polish Code of Criminal Procedure, and the prosecutor joined the defense’s motion to dismiss the case.
Nowak’s Reaction
Nowak expressed hope that those who made false accusations against him will be held accountable and stated that the ruling restored his faith in the justice system.
He noted that the main trial related to alleged corruption in Ukraine is still ongoing in the Warsaw District Court.
