Russia Blasts NATO and EU After Crimea Attack

Russia accused NATO and the European Union of sponsoring terrorism after a reported attack on a Crimean resort, killing two civilians and injuring 15.

Attack on Crimea

On September 22, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported a “deliberate terrorist attack on civilian targets” in the Crimean resort of Foros, around 6:30 pm local time. The ministry claimed Ukrainian forces used unmanned aerial vehicles with fragmentation warheads, killing two civilians and injuring 15.

Russia Blames the West

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that the attack was “another act of terrorism by the Kyiv regime,” and that NATO and the EU, which she claimed were searching for the source of aggression in Europe, needed to “look in the mirror” to see their own role in destabilizing the continent and spreading terrorism.

Ukrainian Response

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed on September 21 that Ukraine was defending itself against almost daily Russian attacks, and that Russia was using thousands of foreign components to construct its weapons. He claimed that over 1,500 drones, 1,280 guided aerial bombs, and 50 missiles of various types had been used in attacks, all containing thousands of foreign components.
