Free Public Transport
On Monday, September 22, 2025, as part of European Car-Free Day, travel on Warsaw Public Transport is free. From 0:00 to 23:59, buses, trams, metro, and Szybka Kolej Miejska (SKM) trains run free of charge, with metro gates and parking gates at Parkuj i Jedź (P+R) remaining open.
Transportation Details
The Municipal Transport Management (Zarząd Transportu Miejskiego) has disabled ticket validators on vehicles, and onboard machines do not sell paper tickets; however, long-term tickets encoded on city cards can be purchased. All means of transport under the Warsaw Public Transport brand, including seven SKM lines, are available free of charge. Additionally, city Parkuj i Jedź parking lots are free, facilitating transfers to public transport.
Participation of Railway Operators
Railway operators servicing the agglomeration have joined the initiative. Koleje Mazowieckie (Mazovian Railways) introduce a special, non-tariff offer, “Dzień bez Samochodu w KM” (Car-Free Day in KM), with free travel on all company trains, replacement bus communication (ZKA), and the KM bus on the Modlin – Lotnisko Modlin route. Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa (WKD, Warsaw Commuter Railway) also offers free travel on all trains and buses, regardless of the route and travel time.
European Mobility Week
European Car-Free Day concludes the European Mobility Week, which took place from September 16 to 22 this year. The city encourages residents to use the free day to explore the dense network of Warsaw Public Transport connections and avoid driving during morning and afternoon rush hours.
