Andrzej Szejna Watch Case: Party Seeks Explanations

New Left MP Andrzej Szejna faces questions after contradicting himself about an Omega watch he was wearing.

The Watch Incident

The issue stems from comments Andrzej Szejna, former deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and MP for New Left, made to a TVP Info reporter a few days ago. When asked if he was wearing an Omega watch, the politician confirmed it. However, when the reporter pointed out that no such watch appears in his financial declaration, Andrzej Szejna suddenly stated that “it’s not an Omega.” – “I need to check this watch, I will answer you,” he added when pressed on the matter.

Szejna: Everything is in Compliance

According to regulations, MPs must list items worth over 10,000 zł in their financial declarations. – “I never owned or was the owner of a watch whose value would exceed 10,000 zł,” Andrzej Szejna later emphasized in TVP Info. In one comment on the X platform, he explained that “the financial declaration is submitted by the end of April of a given year according to the state as of December 31 of the previous year.” He noted that as of December 31, 2024, “he did not own a watch valued at over 10,000 zł.”

MP to Provide Explanations

“MP Andrzej Szejna will provide explanations soon, we are waiting for them. From the information we have, it appears that no irregularity occurred and the MP does not own a watch valued at over 10,000 zł. Nevertheless, we are waiting for detailed explanations,” Łukasz Michnik, spokesperson for New Left, told Gazeta.pl. RMF FM reports that if the position presented by Andrzej Szejna does not prove satisfactory to party authorities, the politician could even be suspended in his rights as a club member. The party spokesperson asked by us for a comment noted that it is definitely too early to talk about such steps. – “For now, we are waiting for explanations,” he repeated.
