Belarus KGB Arrests Polish Citizen, Sparking Diplomatic Reactions

The Belarusian KGB has arrested a 27-year-old Polish man in Lepel, accusing him of spying during military exercises.

Radosław Sikorski Responds:

Poland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski, called the arrest a “provocation” and mentioned that Poland already has citizens detained in Belarusian prisons, including Andrzej Poczobut.

Details of Arrest:

The Polish man was found with US dollars, euros, Bulgarian, and Polish currencies as well as Belarusian rubles. A SIM card from MTS, which was not purchased by him, was also discovered along with a different registered person’s name. He reportedly offered a Belarusian citizen cooperation with Polish special services in clandestinely collecting and sharing secret information, including military staff details and counterintelligence officers.

Reactions from Special Services:

Jacek Dobrzyński, the spokesperson for the minister coordinating special services, commented on the situation, reiterating that Polish special services do not involve clergy in gathering intelligence on military maneuvers.
