CGAS SATURN Attack Leaves Nine Crew Members Missing, Polish Citizen Among Captives

On December 3, pirates seized the Portuguese‑flagged tanker CGAS SATURN off Equatorial Guinea, abducting nine crew members—including a Polish national, as confirmed by Poland’s Foreign Ministry.

The raid took place early Monday night, about 50 nautical miles west of Mbini, Equatorial Guinea. Pirates took nine crew members from the vessel.

Polish Citizen Confirmed by MFA

Polish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maciej Wewiór announced on Polsat that one of the captives is a Polish national.

Vessel’s Status and Route

Owner company Christenia Gas reported that the remaining four crew members remained safely aboard. MarineTraffic data indicates the CGAS SATURN began maneuvering toward Malabo on 30 November.

Piracy Trend in Gulf of Guinea

Experts note that this incident is the eighth armed attack west of Equatorial Guinea and northeast of Príncipe in the last 12 months, pointing to a particularly active piracy group in the region.
