Czarnek Named PiS Candidate for Prime Minister; Poll Shows Low Support

PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński announced Przemysław Czarnek as party’s 2027 PM candidate, while a poll reveals only 20.7% support.

Kaczyński Announces Czarnek as Prime Minister Candidate

At the PiS convention held last Saturday (March 7) in Krakow, party leader Jarosław Kaczyński announced that former Education Minister and PiS Vice President Przemysław Czarnek will be the candidate for prime minister in a government that the party wants to form after the 2027 elections.

Poll Shows Limited Support for Czarnek as PM Candidate

In the SW Research survey conducted for Onet, respondents were asked whether they consider Czarnek a suitable PiS candidate for prime minister. Only 20.7% of respondents expressed a positive opinion, while 56.8% considered his candidacy unsuitable. 22.5% of those surveyed had no opinion on the matter.

Gender Differences in Poll Results

Analysis by gender shows clear differences in assessing the politician as a prime minister candidate. Women are more skeptical. As many as 59.2% believe the PiS MP would not make a good prime minister. Only 15% considered him a suitable candidate, while 25.8% could not give a clear answer. Among men, 26.8% positively evaluated his candidacy, 54.2% negatively, and 19% were undecided.

Poll Methodology

The SW Research poll was conducted on March 11 using the CAWI method (computer-assisted web interview). “As part of the survey, 807 questionnaires were conducted with a national sample of adults. Quota selection was applied – the sample was representative in terms of the total distribution of gender, age and size of place of residence,” reads the description.

Kaczyński: No Other Candidate for Prime Minister

When asked in the Sejm last Friday whether the party would propose another candidate if the former education minister “does not regain voters” for PiS, Kaczyński assured that his party would not present another candidate. “I am convinced that the activities of Professor Przemysław Czarnek will be very, but very useful from the point of view of our election results, and one could say, vote-giving,” he assessed.

Pressed whether he is risking this candidacy, he stated that “it doesn’t matter” whether he is risking it or not. “What matters is that this is an optimal decision, a very good decision, and if we win, we will have a very good prime minister,” he added.
