Poland’s National Bank (NBP) received a prestigious award from the International Association of Currency Affairs for its national cash security strategy on April 30, 2026.
National Cash Security Strategy Honored
The International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA) has recognized Poland’s National Strategy for Cash Circulation Security as the world’s best initiative. The National Bank of Poland (NBP) received the award for the best project enhancing the resilience of cash circulation.
The award was presented at the Global Currency Forum for the development and implementation of the National Strategy for Cash Circulation Security.
NBP President Highlights Strategy’s Importance
“We are pleased that the National Strategy for Cash Circulation Security has been appreciated internationally. This confirms that consistent actions to strengthen the resilience of the cash system are of real importance for the security of the state and citizens,” said Professor Adam Glapiński, President of the NBP.
Glapiński added that cash and national currency remain a key element of the country’s financial security.
Strategy Based on Four Pillars
The award-winning National Strategy for Cash Circulation Security was developed by the Cash Circulation Council at the NBP Management Board. It serves as a comprehensive roadmap, coordinated with stakeholders, for strengthening the resilience of the cash system in Poland.
The strategy is based on four interconnected pillars: universal acceptance and availability of cash, smooth cash supply, cybersecurity of systems used in cash processes, and the physical security of cash and its logistics.
Operational Goals and Collaboration
The adopted solutions translate into specific operational goals, regulatory actions, standards, and coordinated contingency planning throughout the cash ecosystem.
The strategy’s effectiveness was demonstrated during the sharp increase in demand for cash following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, as well as in other situations disrupting the continuity of cash supply.
Enhanced Cooperation and Modern Management
The implementation of the Strategy has also created a new quality of cooperation between the central bank, cash market participants, and national regulators.
This partnership-based, long-term planning approach serves as an example of modern cash management and strengthening its resilience, according to President Glapiński.
