Czarzasty Orders Audit of Ziobro and Romanowski Offices Amid Employment Questions

Sejm Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty has ordered an official audit of the parliamentary offices and expenditures of Zbigniew Ziobro and Marcin Romanowski, citing concerns over potential conflicts regarding their parliamentary salaries and employment status.

Questions Regarding Parliamentary Salaries

On Wednesday, May 27, Sejm Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty announced that he has ordered an audit of the parliamentary offices of Zbigniew Ziobro and Marcin Romanowski. The inquiry centers on whether Ziobro has taken up new employment, which could impact his eligibility for parliamentary allowances.

Czarzasty noted that Ziobro has failed to file a mandatory declaration regarding new employment. The Speaker emphasized that concealing such information could be considered a deliberate violation of parliamentary regulations, as allowances are paid based on declarations of financial status.

Legal Challenges and Disappearance

Zbigniew Ziobro is currently facing 26 criminal charges, including allegations of leading an organized crime group during his tenure as Minister of Justice. Following the Sejm’s approval to detain him in 2025, it was discovered that he had fled to Budapest, where he and Marcin Romanowski were granted political asylum by Viktor Orbán’s government.

Following recent political shifts in Hungary, where the TISZA party and leader Péter Magyar questioned the duo’s continued presence, Ziobro confirmed on May 10 that he had departed Hungary for the United States. His current whereabouts, as well as those of Romanowski, remain unclear.
