Czarzasty Will Not Let Up on Braun Over Auschwitz Scandal, Announces Next Steps

Polish Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty reaffirmed a parliamentary ban on MP Grzegorz Braun following Braun’s offensive speech near Auschwitz on 22 November.

Czarzasty Reaffirms the Ban on Grzegorz Braun

According to PAP reports, on Sunday 23 November the Marshal of the Sejm condemned MP Grzegorz Braun’s speech in Oświęcim. “What Mr. Braun does, his attitude toward Jews, is simply a scandal,” said Włodzimierz Czarzasty, quoted by Gazeta Wyborcza. He declared he would uphold Szymon Hołownia’s decision to bar Braun from the Sejm, explaining that people should not be treated differently simply because they are “different” from one’s own view.

Ban from the Sejm Premises

Grzegorz Braun has been barred from the Sejm premises since 11 June of this year, when then-Marshall Szymon Hołownia issued the order. The reasoning cited was the destruction by the politician of the exhibition titled “Rainbow Opole”, located at the Sejm’s Office. The incident on 12 December 2023, when Braun extinguished Hanukkah candles with a fire extinguisher, was also considered. According to the marshal, the MP’s actions violated the seriousness of the institution. The document states the ban will remain in effect until the end of the Sejm term.

Scandalous Speech Near Auschwitz

According to Gazeta Wyborcza, on Saturday 22 November MP Grzegorz Braun staged a press conference near the former German camp Auschwitz‑Birkenau in Oświęcim, where millions of Jews and about 70,000 Poles were murdered. He criticized the government’s draft “National Strategy for Combating Antisemitism and Supporting Jewish Life for 2025‑2030.” The MP said that “Jews want to be superbeings in Poland,” and that the police would become “some ghetto police that would persecute and frighten Poles for the sake of Jews.” He concluded, “This is Poland, not Polin, not Ukropol, not Land EuroKolchoz, nor Anglo‑Saskian Bantustan.”
