Daycare Death in Ząbki: Caregivers Charged Following Infant Drowning

Following the death of a toddler at a daycare center on Kwiatowa Street in Ząbki this past Wednesday, prosecutors have officially charged two caregivers with involuntary manslaughter.

Investigation into the Fatal Incident

The tragedy occurred on Wednesday at a daycare facility located on Kwiatowa Street in Ząbki. Despite attempts to resuscitate the child, the boy could not be saved. Investigators detained two female caregivers, aged 53 and 48, that same evening.

Findings of the Autopsy

A post-mortem examination conducted on Friday morning determined that the cause of the boy’s death was drowning. Experts found no evidence of mechanical injuries.

Legal Charges and Interrogations

Prosecutor Remigiusz Krynke of the Warsaw-Praga District Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that both women have been charged with the involuntary manslaughter of the child. They were interrogated in the capacity of suspects.

One caregiver confessed to the charges but provided a very brief statement that, according to the prosecutor, yields no substantive information. The second woman refused to answer all questions, including whether she admits to the alleged act.

Court-Ordered Measures

Authorities have imposed police supervision on both suspects, requiring them to report to the police three times a week. Additionally, they are prohibited from approaching or contacting all witnesses in the case, as well as each other.
