Did Ziobro Flee? Public Opinion Split Over Controversial US Trip

Following Reuters’ revelation that former Polish Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro received an expedited US journalist visa under national security grounds, public opinion remains sharply divided on whether his departure was legal.

Public Opinion Remains Deeply Polarized

A recent poll conducted on May 20, 2026, shows a divided public regarding Zbigniew Ziobro’s journey to the United States. While 59.78 percent of the 13,859 participants believe his departure was legal, 39.28 percent categorize the move as an act of fleeing, with the remainder undecided.

Reuters Uncovers Expedited Visa Protocol

According to Reuters, US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau reportedly directed the American embassy in Budapest to issue a journalist visa to Ziobro. The process was allegedly accelerated by citing national security considerations.

Legal and Political Implications

The situation carries significant weight as Ziobro faces 26 charges related to the Justice Fund, with his parliamentary immunity already revoked. Polish authorities, including Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek, have requested explanations from the US government regarding the politician’s status, as speculation grows over a potential extradition request. Defense counsel maintains that Ziobro is not being prosecuted for political reasons.
