Driver Detained on Suspended Arrest in MP Łukasz Litewka Death

A 57-year-old man has been conditionally arrested in connection with the death of Polish MP Łukasz Litewka, who was struck by a car in Dąbrowa Górnicza.

MP Litewka’s Death and Initial Investigation

Łukasz Litewka, a 36-year-old MP from the Lewica (Left) party in Sosnowiec, died tragically on Thursday after being hit by a car while cycling on Kazimierzowska Street in Dąbrowa Górnicza.

The driver, a 57-year-old resident of Sosnowiec, was operating a Mitsubishi Colt when the collision occurred. MP Litewka died despite resuscitation efforts.

Conditional Arrest and Bail Option

The District Court in Dąbrowa Górnicza ordered a three-month arrest for the 57-year-old suspect, effective until July 22nd, according to prosecutor Bartosz Kilian of the Sosnowiec District Prosecutor’s Office.

The arrest is conditional; the suspect can be released upon posting bail of 40,000 PLN. If bail is paid, the arrest will be lifted, and the man will be subject to police supervision, including reporting requirements and a travel ban.

Court’s Reasoning for Arrest

The court emphasized that the threat of a severe sentence for the suspect increases the risk of flight or concealment, as stated by prosecutor Kilian.

Details of the Incident

The accident occurred around 1:00 PM on Thursday. Initial findings indicate the Mitsubishi Colt driven by the 57-year-old collided with MP Litewka, who was riding his bicycle in the opposite direction. The driver was detained at the scene.
