Drunk Loader Operator Crashes, Falls Asleep After Incident

A 24-year-old man was found operating a loader with a blood alcohol content of 2.5 per mille near Płońsk, Poland, on April 24th.

Incident Details

The incident occurred on April 24th, after 6:00 PM, on a service road near Pilitowo, Płońsk County, at kilometer 124 of the S7 highway. Police responding to the scene found a Volvo construction loader overturned in a ditch.

Emergency services were already on site, and the 24-year-old driver, a resident of Sierpecki County, was being attended to in an ambulance. He exhibited slurred speech, balance issues, and a strong odor of alcohol, admitting to consuming alcohol and operating the vehicle.

Witness Account

According to a witness, the loader was traveling towards Poczernin when it began swerving erratically. It veered onto the shoulder, damaged a fence along the S7 highway, and ultimately overturned into the ditch. The driver remained in the vehicle and appeared to be sleeping after the crash.

Vehicle and Driver Status

Further investigation revealed the driver’s driving privileges had been revoked approximately two years prior. Additionally, the loader was not authorized for use on public roads, and the driver had removed it from a construction site without permission.

A breathalyzer test registered a blood alcohol content of around 2.5 per mille. The man was taken into custody, with blood samples drawn for further analysis at the hospital before being transferred to police detention.

Potential Penalties

Driving under the influence carries a potential sentence of up to 3 years imprisonment, a substantial fine, and a driving ban. He also faces penalties for driving with a revoked license, potentially up to 2 years imprisonment.

The court may also order the payment of compensation. Authorities are appealing for responsible driving and highlighting the dangers of drunk driving.
