Experts Identify Accidental Ignition as Likely Cause of 2025 Ząbków Fire

Fire experts determined accidental ignition as probable cause of July 2025 fire at residential building in Ząbków.

Expert Opinion Received

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw-Praga announced on January 30, 2026, that it had received an expert opinion from the Fire Academy in Warsaw regarding the fire at a residential building at Powstańców 62 Street in Ząbków, which occurred on July 3, 2025.

The opinion was prepared by the Fire Cause Investigation and Threat Recognition Department of the Fire Academy in Warsaw.

Cause Determination

According to the findings, experts examined all collected evidence and participated in building inspections. In their conclusions, they stated that “the cause of the fire was not determined,” but the most probable source was accidental ignition.

At the same time, as reported by spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw-Praga, Prosecutor Karolina Staros, “arson was ruled out.”

Fire Safety Assessment

According to the opinion’s conclusions, there is no basis to attribute the fire to human action or omission. The communication emphasized: “no evidence indicating that human action or omission influenced the occurrence of the fire.”

Experts also described the site of fire initiation, indicating it did not occur in attic rooms but in the space between elements of a pitched roof – above one of the residential units.

Regarding fire safety measures, experts found “no violations of fire safety regulations by the building manager.” However, they noted that during the construction phase, recommendations regarding extending fire partitions above the roof covering were not incorporated.

Threat Assessment

The opinion addresses the scale of the threat created by the fire. Prosecutor Karolina Staros stated that “the fire created a real and direct threat to the life and health of residents” – particularly from those floors whose units directly bordered the unused attic space.

The spread of fire through installation shafts, including to the underground garage under staircase II, was also noted.

The communication also indicated that no additional factors were found to have initiated the combustion process.
