Fatal crash on Poland’s S8 kills four in Chojny, road closed

A collision on the S8 near Chojny on Monday night left four dead and a wounded survivor, prompting police to close the highway and issue a safety appeal.

Collision details

On Monday, 24 November, around 06:30, a bus carrying five Polish passengers on the S8 near Chojny in Łódź Voivodeship collided first with a stationary truck in the right lane, then struck the bus itself and a second truck. The impact threw several men out of the vehicle.

Casualties

Despite resuscitation efforts, four men, aged between 42 and 54, died. One passenger survived the crash but was transported by a rescue helicopter to a hospital.

Police response and appeal

Police asked motorists to exercise caution and follow services’ instructions. The S8 corridor was fully blocked, with traffic rerouted via Złoczew (DW‑482 – S8). Two medical rescue teams, three fire departments and three volunteer firefighters helped at the scene.
